SHIBU NATESAN

Born 1966, Trivandrum Kerala

Artist in Residence, Rijksakademie Van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam (1996-97)
Studied M.A. Printmaking, Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda, India (1989-91)
Bachelor of Fine Arts( Painting), College of Fine Arts, Trivandrum, Kerala (1982-87 )

Shibu Natesan chooses to work as a realist using two strategies – directness and detachment. His details tie his subjects to a concrete reality but this perfection adds a certain detachment or emotional distancing. Viewing Natesan's paintings and reading Garcia Marquez, create a similar presence of magic realism. Natesan's reality is literal, yet does not appear familiar. His canvasses are spaces inhabited by the presence of a felt absence.

The artist lives and works in the United Kingdom
