(PALO ALTO, CA) February 18, 2009 – Aicon Gallery presents a solo exhibition of paintings by
Manish Pushkale. This will be the artist's first solo exhibition with Aicon Gallery, and his
first exhibition inthe United States.

Manish Pushkale merges the organic with the spiritual in his abstract oil paintings.His serene
compositions reflect the influences of Buddhist and Jain philosophical teachings, yet transcend
religion to express a deeply personal engagement with the immaterial. "Pushkale is a virtuoso
who has transformedthe act of image making into a frenetic dance, the pictorial surface into
a place of enchantment and theuse of color into pure alchemy." – Anirudh Chari

Manish Pushkale was born in Bhopal, India, in 1973. A trained geologist, he received art
education at the famed Bharat Bhavan artists' collective in his home city. His work has
been shown in two group exhibitions at Aicon Palo Alto: Middle Edge in 2008, and Confluence
2005 in 2005. Pushkale has participated in group shows at Galerie Mueller and Plate, Munich,
2009; Aakriti Art Gallery, Kolkata, 2008; Gallery Beyond, Mumbai, 2008; and M.E.C. Art Gallery,
New Delhi, 2006. He has had solo and two-person exhibitions at Bodhi Art Gallery, Mumbai,
2008, and New Delhi, 2006; Gadfly Gallery, Perth,2005; Maison des Sciences de l'Hommes, Paris,
2003; and Pundole Art Gallery, Mumbai, 2003. He is a recipient of the S. H. Raza Foundation
award, the Bharat Bhavan Annual Exhibition Certificate Award,and the All India Fine Arts and
Crafts Society Award. The artist lives and works in New Delhi.
