Ravi was born in Bangalore in 1968, and was attracted to the world of colour from a very young age. By 15, he had decided to become an artist.

Academics
In 1983, at the age of 16, he joined Ken School of Art for foundation studies and then Chitrakala Parishat, Bangalore to complete BFA in Painting in 1988, winning the Venkatappa Gold medal for excellence. He then did his masters in printmaking at MS University, Baroda with distinction in 1990. He also earned a masters degree in English from Mysore University in 1995. In 2001 he studied handmade papermaking under Ms J. Parry at the Papermaking Resource, Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow, UK, with a grant from the Charles Wallace India Trust through the British Council of India.

Work
Between 1994 and 2004 Ravi taught in the Architecture Department of R.V. College of Engineering, Bangalore as well as Department of Visual Arts, Bangalore University as guest faculty.

Shows
Ravi has so far had 14 solo shows in Bangalore, Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, and Hyderabad in India and Glasgow in UK. He has also taken part in many curated shows, group shows and annual exhibitions in India and in Munich, New York, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Berkeley, Perth, Mexico and Toronto. He has been part of such prestigious shows as the 10th Triennale of India in New Delhi, 11th Asian Art Biennale, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Arad Biennale, Romania, 'Edge of Desire' traveling show of Indian art being currently shown in Perth - Australia, New York - USA, Mexico- New Mexico, Toronto - Canada.

Awards
Apart from scholarships in college, Ravi won a three-month Charles Wallace India Trust scholarship grant to study paper making in Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow. He won the Bombay Art Society Award in 1990. He has also won Karnataka Lalit Kala Akademi award three times and National Award in 2000.

Literary pursuits
Ravi has written numerous articles on art in English and native tongue, Kannada, published in various magazines and newspapers, and has presented papers in several seminars.
