Confluence 2006
ART CAMP III
ArtsIndia Gallery, NY
Opening reception, June 6, 6-9pm

Confluence 2006 is Gallery ArtsIndia's third annual artist retreat in New York, and its inaugural retreat with American participants. This year, New York-based artists Peter Drake, Carson Fox, Ann Shostrom and John Bowman will join TV Santhosh and Smriti Dixit from Bombay, Indrapramit Roy and Sajal Sarkar from Baroda, GR Iranna, Pooja Iranna, Harsha Vardhana and K.S. Radhakrishnan from Delhi, Akhilesh from Bhopal, and Rathin Kanji from Calcutta in a weeklong "art camp" in a shared studio loft space near the gallery's Flatiron district location. ArtsIndia conceived of the first Confluence to bring together a representative range of India's working contemporary artists for a week of work and play in the art capital of the Western world. After two enormously successful years of Confluence and with feedback from previous participants, the gallery moved this year to add a group of American artists to the camp to further the artistic and social cross-pollination between the New York and Indian art worlds. The 'work' portion of Confluence 2006 will commence on Friday, May 26th and run through Wednesday, May 31st, with an open studio and reception for the press from 5 to 7pm on Tuesday, May 30th at 15 W 28th Street, 10th floor. On June 1st, the group heads West for sightseeing and another take on Americana in Las Vegas and Grand Canyon National Park. Confluence will conclude back in New York on June 6th, with an opening reception featuring the artwork created during the retreat.
