Gallery Arts India kicks off the New Year with an exhibition of paintings by Owais Husain - The Forest of Lost Languages: Return of the Native. The exhibition is a combination of recent as well as early works that have been a part of the historical Chester Herwitz collection.
Owais is the son of the eminent painter MF Husain. His work is however distinct from his father, introspective with softer lines and intimate imagery. Owais' work focuses on the relationship between the mind and body and its interplay with a physical surrounding. His work has deeply spiritual quality with brushstrokes that envelope the entire canvas. One can see the progression from a more abstract canvas to more figurative and vibrant compositions in his newer work.
Owais Husain received his bachelors in Fine Art from the distinguished Sir J.J. School of Art in 1990. He went on to work at the Kanoria Centre for Visual Arts in Ahmedabad between 1991 and 1992. He has held various solo shows in galleries across India. His works have been exhibited at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi and at Sakshi Gallery in Mumbai. He has also had a keen interest in film having co-written 'Meenaxi' that was directed by MF Husain.
