ARTIST'S STATEMENT: Plate and Peelers
Adeela Suleman continues her use of culturally specific materials, terminology and visual references in her edition I Will Lie With You. Her use of the tray references the idea of being served and the carefully positioned and intricately decorated peelers hint at human bodies lying together in a specific space or situation and offering oneself to another with limited options. Adeela's work is typically nuanced working on many levels, she talks of this work as referencing "To be or place oneself at rest in a flat, horizontal, or recumbent position; To be buried in a specified place. To be or remain in a specified condition. To do little or nothing. Or to place oneself or be in a horizontal position in order to rest."
